How we calculate: trains don't run in straight lines, so distance is estimated as the straight-line distance between the two stations plus 20% for the route; enter the real mileage if you know it. Journey time, unless you enter your own, is a rough estimate (average speed from about 60 km/h on short trips to about 150 km/h on long ones) and shown with ≈. CO₂ is your share of the train's emissions, using the UK Government 2025 greenhouse gas conversion factors (DESNZ): the "national rail" factor for journeys within one country and the "international rail" factor for journeys between countries. These are UK-based averages, so treat figures for other countries' trains as approximate. Station data: Trainline open stations dataset (ODbL); it mostly covers Europe, so for other stations choose the country (and optionally the nearest city, from GeoNames, CC BY 4.0) and enter the distance.
